Build On the Rock

July 10, 20212 min read

In the Monday Morning Devotional this week we looked at the reality of the wise and foolish builders. The foolish builder is the guy who builds on the foundation of sand. It is a foundation of easier decisions, comfort, and an easy fit for the world we live in today. But what about the wise builder? What does it mean to build on the rock? In today’s podcast devotional JB and Casie Shreve consider that question.

Points covered in this podcast devotional Build on the Rock:

  • Hearing and obeying are intimately linked in the Word of God
  • There is a base level of hearing and obeying
  • There is a deeper level of hearing
  • Conviction as the burden of God on our lives
  • Conviction as the blueprint for our life

Luke 6:46-49 (NLT) “So why do you keep calling me ‘Lord, Lord!’ when you don’t do what I say? I will show you what it’s like when someone comes to me, listens to my teaching, and then follows it. It is like a person building a house who digs deep and lays the foundation on solid rock. When the floodwaters rise and break against that house, it stands firm because it is well built. But anyone who hears and doesn’t obey is like a person who builds a house right on the ground, without a foundation. When the floods sweep down against that house, it will collapse into a heap of ruins.”

If we want to build on the rock, we must consider and examine the realities of our life. The hard question must be asked and the inconvenient decisions must be made.
