Considerations As You Read

Elisha was very different from the prophet Elijah. This was part of God’s design. Elijah’s ministry was famous for the judgment and severity of God. Elisha’s ministry was famous for the ‘still small voice’ aspect of God’s will and word in the life of Israel. Both represent an aspect of God He wanted to reveal to the people.

1. How do I see God? Is my perspective of Him complex enough?

Elisha’s development process was a pathway of humility and servant hood. He was known as the man who washed Elijah’s hands, not as a great and mighty prophet.

2. How have I imagined my own development in the call of God on my life? Is it a pathway of humility or self-described greatness?

The band of prophets who traveled with Elijah and Elisha seemed to not fully recognize and appreciate the grace upon Elisha’s life after Elijah departed. Familiarity was the great enemy of seeing the design of God here.

3. Are there areas and people in my life where I have allowed familiarity to obstruct a correct view?
